Sangiran Museum

Sangiran Museum is one of the interesting tourist attractions in Sragen. Situated within Sangiran dome is at the foot of Mount Lawu, approximately 17 kilometers from Solo town. Sangiran is a symbol of human life picture of the past time and it is the most complete hominid fossil in Java Island. The extent of the area reaches 56 square kilometers and it lies in 3 districts, namely: Pulpuh, Gemolong, Kalijambe and Karanganyar, Central Java.
 
Sangiran is an important site for developing various science area, particularly for research of geology field, anthropology, archeology, biology, anthropology, and tourism. The existence of Sangiran is very useful for studying prehistoric human life because of this site is equipped with early human fossils, fossil plants, animals and early human culture.
 
Passed by beautiful of Bengawan Solo river, the area is experiencing soil erosion so that the layer of soil that forms differ between soil layers each other. Until now, there are many human fossils found and the ancient animal. Some early human fossils stored neatly in Geology Museum in Bandung, Yogyakarta and anthropology Laboratory. Judging from the findings, Sangiran site is a prehistoric site that has a very important role in understanding the process of human evolution and most complete archaeological sites in the world. Accordingly, Sangiran World Heritage designated No.593 by World Heritage Committee at 20th anniversary year in Merida, Mexico. The Sangiran museum was declared by the Indonesian Education and Culture Minister program in 1977 and is listed in UNESCO World Heritage in 1996.
