Komodo Island

Komodo Island is located in eastern part of Nusa Tenggara Islands. The island is Komodo National Park, which is managed directly by Local Government. Komodo Island is in the west of Sumbawa, which is separated by Sape Strait. Komodo Island is known as habitat for native animals dragons.

Administratively, Komodo Island includes in Komodo district, Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. Komodo Island is located at westernmost of Nusa Tenggara directly adjacent to West Nusa Tenggara Province. Komodo animals live and breed well over there. The report of August 2012, there were about 1.400 Komodo. Coupled with other islands, namely Rinca and Gili Mota islands and total is about 2.700 Komodo.

There are approximately 100 individuals dragons in Wae Wuul Nature Reserve on the mainland of Flores Island, but it is not including Komodo National Park. In the year of 1910 the Dutch named the island is Komodo. The story originated from Dutch Lieutenant called Steyn van Hens Broek that tries to prove statements about presence of troops large animal resembling dragon on the island. He killed a dragon and brought it as documentation to Botanical Garden Museum in Bogor to be further investigated.
