Komodo Island

Komodo Island is an island located in the eastern part of the Nusa Tenggara islands. The island is also the Komodo National Park which is managed directly by the Central Government. The Komodo Island is located in the west of the island of Sumbawa which is separated by Sape Strait. The Komodo Island is known as a habitat for native animals dragons.

Administratively, the island including the District of Komodo, West part of Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Komodo Island is located at the westernmost tip of Nusa Tenggara directly adjacent to the West Nusa Tenggara Province. The Komodo Island, Komodo animals live and breed well. As of August 2012, there were about 1.400 Komodos the island. Coupled with other islands, namely Rinca and Gili Mota islands and their numbers totaled about 2.700 Komodos.

There are approximately 100 individuals dragons in Wae Wuul Nature Reserve on the mainland of Flores Island but not including the Komodo National Park. In the year of 1910 the Dutch named the island as the island of Komodo. The story originated from a Dutch Lieutenant called Steyn van Hens Broek that tries to prove statements about the presence of troops large animal resembling a dragon on the island. He killed a dragon and bring documentation to Botanical Garden Museum in Bogor to be further investigated.
