Ijen Crater is one of active mountains in Indonesia. It has a height of 2443 meters above sea level, walled caldera more than 500 meters tall and has erupted four times in the year of 1796, 1817, 1913 and 1936. Ijen Crater volcano complex is one that consists of Ijen crater and plateau. Ijen region lies in three areas, namely the district Bondowoso, Situbondo and Banyuwangi.
In this area there are Ijen sulfur mining, which indicates that the mountain is still active. While at the Ijen crater area, the visitors can see the miners were busy carrying piles of sulfur on their shoulders, down the steep and filled with sulfur gas smell.
Ijen Crater is one of the central crater lakes in the world, which produces 36 million cubic meters of sulfur and hydrogen chloride with an area of more than 5,400 acres. Ijen Crater has an extraordinary beauty with light green sulfur lake. Ijen lake has zero degrees of acidity and has a depth of 200 meters and a strong acidity can dissolve clothing and human fingers.
